GALLIENI: Heaven on Earth.

Forget that phallic Iron tourist radio transmitter, forget the pomp and circumstance of Haussmans Architecture and consign to oblivion that Gothic Catherdral where disfigured Disney characters yearn and lust over harlot gypsy girls.

For an untouched piece of Parisian paradise, head down to Gallieni (Eastern end of line 3). Galleni metro station opened in 1971, nearly 40 years ago and has clearly been untouched ever since.

This concrete garden of Eden itself was christened after General. Joeseph Gallieni, most famously noted in the books of yore for commandeering six-hundred taxis to ferry troops to the front line during the First Battle of Marne, which is a seriously mean feat considering I find it difficult to just get the one!

During the generals mass hailing of cabs he is oft quoted as saying “Well, here at least is something out of the ordinary!” which are the exact some words I blurted out of my gob to describe the six lane motorway behemoth which runs right through Gallieni’s beating heart (the place not the much decorated WW1 war general).

Other highlights include the largest tourist bus depot in Paris, a dimly lit cafe which stank of Muenster and a gift shop where Gallieni-esque quality goods can be purchased (my favorite was the two for one bottle openers with a picture of the Euroline ticket office, a sure fire hit for any beloved family member).
